8 cups all purpose flour
1 cup of milk
2 tbsp butter
1 ½ tbsp yeast
2 tsp kosher salt
2 tbsp sugar
5 cups warm water
½ cup corn flour ( portuguese corn flour)
In a small bowl, add yeast,sugar,2 tbsp of flour and ½ cup warm water. Mix well and put aside. In a large bowl add flour,salt and mix well. Melt butter in milk and add to the flour bowl. Add yeast and 4 cups of warm water. Mixing and adding more water if needed. When all flour is combined with the liquid and blended well cover and put aside. Let rest for 15 minutes. Do a few flips, and at this time you check if you need more water or flour. Cover again and let rest for 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size. Place corn flour on the counter and begin shaping dough and place it in a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.Pre heat oven at 450 degrees. Cover dough and let rest 20-30 minutes. Lower the oven to 400 degrees and place bread in the oven for about 30 minutes.

1 ½ colher de sopa de fermento
2 colheres de chá de sal kosher
2 colheres de sopa de açúcar
5 xícaras de água morna
½ xícara de farinha de milho (farinha de milho portuguesa)
Em uma tigela pequena, adicione o fermento, o açúcar, 2 colheres de sopa de farinha e ½ xícara de água morna. Misture bem e reserve. Em uma tigela grande adicione a farinha, o sal e misture bem. Derreta a manteiga no leite e adicione à tigela de farinha. Adicione o fermento e 4 xícaras de água morna. Misturar e adicionar mais água, se necessário. Quando toda a farinha estiver combinada com o líquido e bem misturada cubra e reserve. Deixe descansar por 15 minutos. Faça algumas viradas e, neste momento, verifique se precisa de mais água ou farinha. Cubra novamente e deixe descansar por 1 hora ou até que a massa dobre de tamanho. Coloque a farinha de milho na bancada e comece a modelar a massa e coloque-a em uma assadeira coberta com papel manteiga. Cubra a massa e deixe descansar por 20-30 minutos. Baixe o forno para 400 graus e coloque o pão no forno por cerca de 30 minutos.

Loved the recipe. I often do pao caseiro but mostly in the winter days, however I never tried your recipe only because and I have to admit that I never saw a pao caseiro recipe that calls for milk, butter and corn flour in addition to the purpose flour. I do have to try this recipe for sure. I am a sucker for homemade Portuguese bread mostly especially when it comes from the oven smothered with Portuguese bread, yummmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm staying away for now from baking bread because it is such a temptation to have more than one slice. But the next time I bake bread I will make your recipe. Thank you
There is nothing like the smell of bread baking in the oven. My goodness, Angela that is my weakness fresh hot baked bread with butter and a big chunk of queijo de Sao Jorge or with queijo de Sao Miguel🧀...yum. I have to stay away from bread too, I love to eat it but my hips and thighs love it more lol... I must try this. Thank you Angela for recipe...love it!😊
